Question

5. Overvoltage protection of power transmission lines.

5. Overvoltage protection of power transmission lines.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

OVERVOLTAGE PROTECTION:

over voltage protection is a power supply feature which shuts down the supply, or clamps the output, when the voltage exceeds a pressure level. Most the power supplies use an over voltage protection circuit to prevent damage to the electronic components.

over voltage protection is required in case of hydro electric or gas turbine generators but not in case of turbo generators transmission line.

Over voltage may be caused due to

1.the transient over voltage in the transmission line due to lighrening.

2. Defective operation of the voltage regulator.

3.Sudden loss of load due to line tripping

The protection is provided with an overvoltage relay.

It is usually of induction pattern with an IDMT ccharacteristic

The electronic data transmission lines are said to have a transmission rate of 15 (000,000) bits per second; with a standard deviation of 3 (000,000) bits per second and follow a normal distribution. If you test one of the lines, what is the probability of finding a line with a transmission rate of less than 10 (000,000) bits per second. Group of answer choices 0.1475 0.0475 0.4525 0.9525

Power lines and cancer (4.2, 4.3) Does living near power lines cause leukemia in children? The National Cancer Institute spent 5 years and $5 million gathering data on this question. The researchers compared 638 children who had leukemia with 620 who did not. They went into the homes and measured the magnetic fields in children’s bedrooms, in other rooms, and at the front door. They recorded facts about power lines near the family home and also near the mother’s residence...
