1) it is used in shared network such as ethernet, before transmitting devices listen first and if the channel is in use then network wait before transmitting. MA multiple access indicates that many devices can be connected at the same time. Even though devices attempt to whether network in use, there is a good chance that two devices attempt at the same time. Therefore before transmitting, it checks network and avoid collision by using CSMA/CD.
