i'd like to to use potentiometer in MY RIO(LABVIEW) program. The model's performace property is if proximity sensor detects something, then, the potentiometer rotates about 120 degree and if the object was eliminated, potentiometer rotates again 120degree in reverse direction.

The only thing i could do is rotate 120degree in one direction. And it doesn't rotate back in reverse direction when the object removed. (In my case, i didn't know how to control the angle of it, so i used activate time to control rotate)

In common state.(like so objects are detected in proximity sensor), Potentiometer does not activate but it activates only if the sensor detects something and then rotate back when the objects are removed.

Unless your shaft is rotating fairly slowly, probably not.

I think of two methods which might work.

1. Use an absolute encoder with parallel digital outputs. A 9-bit encoder has a resolution of 1 part in 512 which is better than 1 degree. At the software timed maximum rate of 150 S/s, you could get to about 100 rpm.

2. Use a continuous rotation potentiometer with sine/cosine outputs and read them with analog inputs. DO some trigonometry in software to calculate the angle. You could theoretically reach ~800 rpm.

Or you can use LM317 for further rotation
