Ferrite materials have much lower saturation flux densities than laminated steels. Briefly explain why, despite this, ferrite materials are preferred in magnetic components operating at switched-mode frequencies.
Answer :- Ferrite materials have less area of hysteresis loop in B-H curve. It means lesser saturation flux density and less hysteresis loss. Also ferrite materials have high resistace, so no need of laminations. When a material having large hysteresis loop is used in high frequency system then loss is more. To reduce that loss ferrite materials are used for switched frequecy mode and RF mode. The high resistance property reduces the eddy current loss in the core.
Ferrite materials are called "hard magetic materials (low saturation)" and are not used for low frequency operations.
