Does FM has the same problem as AM in the case of over modulation?
AM (Amplitude Modulation) makes the carrier wave to invert or phase shifted when the modulated signal amplitude is above a set value. It is the algebraic multiplication of two signals.
Overmodulation occurs when the modulation index is more than 1.
Overmodulation doesn't have any significant impact on FM systems. When the modulation signal amplitude is very high the frequency modulator limits the signal and it cannot push the bandwidth of the modulated signal too broad in frequency domain or spectrum. To be precise the modulating signal gets clipped.
