What is an interphase circulating current in an electrical cable (like an XLPE cable)? Where does it occur, please provide a figure if possible? How is this interphase circulating current harmful?
When dealing with power cables sheath circulating currents can be induced if sheath is made up of magnetic material. These current produces power losses in the sheath and decreases the capacity of carrying current of the cables. The ciculating sheath current generates a magnetic field that adds to the cable magnetic field.
Harmful effects
1.It leads to effective power losses and the materials are made up of steel and iron effective amount of power loss
2. It heats the metal and hence leads to energy loss and abrupt transmission of power and sometimes damages the conductor for excessive heat loss
