Industrial loads usually consist of resistance and inductance which we would refer to as an inductive load (voltage leads current or current lags voltage). This means that we have a lagging power factor. Is there a means of lowering the lagging power factor angle (i.e., bring the power factor closer to unity) by adding a component or components to the circuit? What would you add? How would you connect that additional component?

Answer #1

the low power factorof industrial loads is due to inductive nature of load

theirfore the logical corrective is to connect such device across the load which takes leeding reactive power such a capacitor or synchronus condensar the leading reactive component of the current drawn by power factor correcting device i,e capacitor neutralize the lagging reactive component of current drawn by the load partly or completely their by bringing the power factor close to unity

the power correcting device i,e capacitor is connected in parllel with the equipment whose power factor is to be improved
