A permanent magnet DC generator is run at a constant speed of 800 rpm and provides a
terminal voltage of 150 V at its rated loading. Its armature resistance is Ra=0.2 Ω. When the
generator is not loaded, the input power is 300W and Vt= 165V.

a) Calculate the voltage regulation of the generator.

b) Calculate the armature current.

For the same machine given assume now that it is loaded with a load of RL= 0.35 Ω.

c) Calculate the induced armature voltage.
d) Calculate mechanical torque.
e) Calculate the efficiency of this machine.

f) What is your opinion about the generator; as an engineer, would you recommend someone to buy it or not?
