Incandescent light lamp flickering due to? Frequency or Voltage ?
Incandescent lamps mainly flicker due to fluctuation in voltage of the supply system. The voltage of a power line does fluctuates when there is switching of larger loads. If we consider about our domestic power supply, this type of voltage fluctuations occur due to cutting in water pump set, air conditioners, refrigerators and other significant large loads. Flickering of incandescent lamps due to the above mentioned reason may occur frequently or rarely that depend upon the frequency of switching.
And another kind of flickering is Stroboscopic flickering that occurs when high voltage capacity lights are connected to AC supply system directly. Stroboscopic flickering has a rate of 100 / sec or 120 /sec depending on the supply frequency( 50 Hz or 60Hz respectively). But this type of flicking is not visible in human eye , Stroboscopic flickering only interfere with other light sources and fast moving objects.
So, Incandescent lamps mainly flicker due to fluctuation in voltage of the supply system.
