Question

Where does the largest change in electrical potential occur in a PN junction? Why?

Where does the largest change in electrical potential occur in a PN junction? Why?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The large change in electrical potential occurs in quasi-neutral region of PN junction. The quasi neutral region is within the pn junction depletion layer where carrier recombination takes place. Due to recombination current flows.

The voltage on both sides of quasi neutral region is given as follows

The potential difference across the quai neutral region is large as they have opposite signs.
