A chemical plant to produce 5000 barrels per day of Biodiesel was estimated to cost 63 million in 1987. Estimate the cost of a plant with twice this capacity in 2019.

Inflation index factor for 2019 of 9.59

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Since the inflation factor is given, the factor formula needs not to be used here, which is [(1 + inflation rate) ^number of years] = 9.59.

Twice the production = 63 × 2 = 126 million

Required cost = Twice the production × Inflation factor

                        = 126 × 9.59

                        = 1,208.34 million

Assume a competitive market for oil. Low-cost producers can produce 2 million barrels at $20 per barrel. Medium-cost producers can produce 10 million barrels at $30 per barrel. High-cost producers can produce 10 million barrels at $40 per barrel. If demand is perfectly inelastic at 5 million barrels, what is the equilibrium price of oil? a) $40 b) $30 c) $25 d) $24 e) $20

A 50-mgpd (million gallons per day) water treatment plant was proposed in 2017 for Ureka. A 60- mgpd plant using the same treatment process was built in 2010 in Vancouver for $50,000,000. Given the following additional information and assumptions: Poor site condition in Vancouver required an additional $3,000,000 for foundations, which is not anticipated for Ureka. Assume the power sizing size exponent = 0.67. Assume inflation will persist at an average 5% per annum. Assume the location index for Vancouver...
