Why is the U.S deficit a long term issue
The US deficit is a long-term issue as the volume of the debt is so much that the US government cannot pay off the total debt in the near future. As of January 26, 2016, the total public debt of the USA was $13.62 trillion, which was around 75% of its previous 1 year. The interest payment on the US debt in 2017 was $458,542,287,311.80. The high interest paid by the government adds to the fiscal deficit of the government. The government cannot pay off such a huge debt in a short-span of time. Therefore, the US debt is a long-term issue.
