Referencing is the way of acknowledging the author or any reseaecher that you have reffered. Actually you are giving credit to the writers. Referencing are provided at the end of your work. It id detailed information of resources that you have consulted. It is also a way of showing your respect towards the authors for their research experience and knowledge. It also act as an evidence for your research. There are different styles of referecing. Some of the examples are APA, MLA, Harvard etc. For example in author date style the authors name is put inside the text of assignments. Likewise each style has its own uniquness. Referencing is a proof that shows you have read widely which widely improves your knowledge. Plagarism can be avoided through this. Good referencing is important for good practice.
