The question is from the textbook Inequality, Discrimination, Poverty, and Mobility Question 4 from chapter 7:
"The National Hockey League with the support of the player's union requires that players wear helmets while on the ice. Why does the league have to mandate the wearing of helmets for such a dangerous game? Does mandating helmet use increase or decrease the utility of the league's players?"
Why Helmets:
1. Safety Reasons- A safer player plays better, fearlessly and for
a longer duration. Prevents injuries to players which could cost
huge money for player's treatment and medication after injury, for
the League organisers.
2. Ethical Reasons- Not using Helmets in such games could result
in injuries and hence reduce the strength and makes him feel that
the system doesn't support him and is effective.
3. Economic Reasons- Injury free players perform better than injury
hit players, on payroll and hence earn profits.
4. Lastly, sponsors aae to be wary of investing in a game which is
very risky
