High female employment opportunities outside the home and greater female school attendance, especially at the primary and secondary levels, are associated with significantly lower levels of fertility. Higher female school attendance or higher literacy in women help them to earn a share of income of household given employment opportuntiies. The earning women has more say in the birth related issues and also has higher chances of sending their children in schools instead of treating them as an extra earner for the family.

Higher women education also ensures a reduction in the child mortality as family targets a certain number of surviving kids it will reduce the decline in fertility by increasing the chnaces of first kid survival. Therefore, fertility can be reduced by higher employment opportunities and primary and secondary level education for the women.
