Assume John is a customer who feels disutility, when servers in
the restaurant he went, are male. How would this affect his
economic decisions?
John experiences a decrease in the utility when the servers in the restaurants are males, hence he will avoid going to such restaurants. On the contrary he will go to restaurants with female servers. Hence, John will prefer to go to those restaurants which have female servers because that will lead to an increase in the utility of John. When offered with choices of not going to a restaurant against going to a restaurant where the servers are males, he will choose not to go to the restaurant because this will keep his total utility same, if not increase it, as opposed to the other situation in which he will experience a decrease in total utility, which assuming John is a rational consumer would not like to consume.
