special drawing rights or SDR is an international reserve assets. it was introduced in 1969 in IMF to suppliment its member countries. SDR represents a basket of currencies and is reviewed every five years  or earlier if needed, so that it reflects the relative importance of currencies in the world’s trading and financial systems. each currency has a specific weight in SDR basket. now 5 currencies are there in SDR basket including chinese yuan. the currencies are chosen based on specific criteria. duringthe review in 2015 it was found that the chinese yuan met the criteria so it got included in the basket.
