In city A, restrictions on industrial imports keep the price of industrial products at about 10 times the national level. Now the government decides to remove all import restrictions on industrial products. What impact do you think removing these import restrictions would have on the price of housing in city A? Explain.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

With the removal of import restriction, the price of industrial products will fall because now industrial manufacturer will face competition from foreign and also the price within the country is higher and therefore, people will import at lower world prices. Due to this, the supply of housing will rise beccause house builder will now get raw material to build house at less cost. Therefore, the supply of housing in City A will rise and the price of housing will fall.

In this question, you should analyze the effect of price control to keep low inflation rate in the AD-AS framework. For simplicity, assume that the economy is in a full employment equilibrium initially. The government controls prices in stores to avoid inflation. Namely, they do not allow the changes in prices in stores. What would happen to output and the price level when the central bank increases money supply? Explain using the AD-AS diagram. What would happen to output and...

Question 1: While the U.S. both imports and exports computers, we import a much larger amount than we export. For this question, assume that the U.S. either imports completely or exports completely and that the trade balance reflects something fundamental about our resources and production costs relative to the rest of the world. Use a detailed diagram to show supply and demand in the market for computers in U.S. Label all areas in the graph in order to answer the...

In this exercise, you will analyze the supply-demand equilibrium of a city under some special simplifying assumptions about land use. The assumptions are: (i) all dwellings must contain exactly 1,500 square feet of floor space, regardless of location, and (ii) apartment complexes must contain exactly 15,000 square feet of floor space per square block of land area. These land-use restrictions, which are imposed by a zoning authority, mean that dwelling sizes and building heights do not vary with distance to...

Assume that the City Council in Prescott, Arizona is considering implementing price ceilings on rental units based on the number of bedrooms in the unit. The demand function for rental units (on a single bedroom equivalent basis) is given by QD = 120 – 4P and the supply function is given by QS = 2P, where P is price and Q is quantity. The Council is considering imposing a ceiling price on rental units of Pmax = 16. 1. Using...

Properties in the city of Mumbai (formerly Bombay) in India are still subject to rent–control regulations that were imposed in 1947. At that time, thousands of people migrated into Mumbai as a result of the partition of the country into India and Pakistan. Rents were frozen at levels that prevailed in 1940, in order to prevent spikes in rental rates that might have resulted from this rapid increase in demand for housing. The questions below ask you to analyze the...
