A friend said to you, "the best way to advertise is to get free publicity." Why is this statement theoretically incorrect?
Free publicity indicates covering the news of the company or its products. If a newspaper or news bulletin publishes news regarding the company’s achievements, success, and product categories, then such news is a free publicity. This may be treated as an advertisement but this is not the best, theoretically atleast.
The statement is incorrect because of the following reason:
If the free publicity is positive, means all good news about the company, then also it creates one-time effect in the mind of potential consumers. Moreover, this can’t cover the whole potential market since all the potential consumers may not get the news at a time. In order to get the larger effect, advertisement should be done repeatedly so that no one can miss out. This is not happening in free publicity; therefore, this is not the best.
