The US Federal Courts handle the cases that only fall under the jurisdiction of the federal law. That includes those with having conflict of laws, interpretation of laws, etc. The US Federal Court only hears around 100 cases per year.

There is no fixed term of services for justices and they serve until their death or resignation or impeachment. The Article 3 of the US constitution says that Supreme Court and lower Federal Court judges "shall hold their offices during their good behaviour."
