Which main products did the US import and export last year? Do you see a correlation between US imports and exports, and the US comparative advantage?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The main products that US export are capital goods, crude oil, fuel, other refined petroleum products, auto parts, engines etc whereas it's imports are crude petroleum, cars, vehicle parts, computers etc.

It is hard to find any correlation between the US imports and exports because the trend of it is US importing more capital goods, industrial goods, consumer goods, food and beverages etc. However it has a comparative advantage in providing services than other countries such as India, thus making it an advantageous situation for the country.

Go online to find the main products that the U.S. imports and exports. Write a paragraph to summarize your findings and explain why the U.S. wants to import and export these products. Be sure to apply the concepts of opportunity costs, comparative advantage and...

The reason is that increases in the values of other currencies compared to the U.S. Dollar may impact your imports negatively, whilst it may on the other hand, be good for exports. To do this estimate, you obtain the following spot exchange...

4. Resolution of the Leontief paradox The factor-endowment theory predicts that because the United States is relatively abundant in capital and relatively scarce in labor, it will export capital-intensive goods, and its import-competing goods will be labor intensive. In the 1950s, Wassily Leontief, a Russian-American economist, tested this proposition by analyzing the capital/labor ratios of export industries and import-competing industries, using U.S. data. He found that the capital/labor ratio for U.S. export industries was lower than that of the United...
