Answer #1

Following are some Benefits of Space Exploration:

  • Weather Forecasting
  • Global Positioning Satellites
  • Aircraft collision avoidance systems
  • Better understanding of life on certain planets
  • Digital Imaging
  • Rain forest protection.
  • Natural Resource Mapping
  • Shock Absorbers for buildings to deal with earthquakes.
  • Camera phones used in computers and mobile phones were developed because of their original use for space exploration.
  • NASA developed air purifier for international space station and now it is put to standard use on earth in hospitals.
  • Athletic shoes were originally based on technology using shock-absorbent rubber molding designed for astronauts' helmets

Many people argue that huge funds are being spent on space programs. The same can be utilized to reduce poverty and providing other infrastructural facilities to the economy. But this argument is not valid. The benefits received to humanity from space exploration [programs are much more than the costs incurred. It is difficult to quantify the return on investments from space programs. But still the space exploration has not only enhanced our knowledge but also led to certain inventions which have made human life much more easier, safer and comfortable.

If this is correct how do we know space is expanding at all? I'll attempt to explain further......

Suppose two companies X and Z have exactly the same operating characteristics and their business risks are perfectly correlated (i.e., exactly the same cashflows). They differ only in the way they finance their operations. Both companies will be liquidated exactly one year from now and shareholders will receive a liquidating dividend at the end of the year. Company X is expected to pay a liquidating dividend of $55 million, but this is uncertain, so shareholders discount this dividend at a...
