explain in detail why an airline may decide to sell an air ticket to stand by passenger at less than full fare if there are empty seats on the airplane

Answer #1

Airlines vary the price for a number of reasons but usually it is according to demand .If the airline finds that booking levels are below the level where they should be in a particular date , they may sell at less than full fare.Prices may also go down if a fare sale is launched. Many airlines cover the same route and if one airline reduces price , others will follow suit and sell at less than full fare.Business travellers usually prefer to travel on monday and return on friday . If such dates are avoided , in the midweek tickets will be available even in the last moment and so prices may be less.
