The company that produces a table lamp has two production lines, A and B in its factory.
Suppose that the cost of producing x units of the table lamp in the production line A is (3x + 8)x dollars. The cost of producing y units of the same table lamp in the production line B is (2y + 6)y dollars. Now, the company has an order for 200 units of table lamp and plans to operate the both production lines.
Note that this is a constrained optimization problem. Use the Lagrangian method.

i) How many table lamps should the company produce in production lines to satisfy this order and minimize its cost of production?
ii) Using the bordered Hessian, confirm that your answer in part i) is a minimum.
iii) Explain the economic meaning of x

The Bright Lamp Company has budgeted its conversion cost for the small lamp production as $85,000 for 1,300 production hours. Each unit produced by the cell requires 15 minutes of process time. During the month, 3,800 units are manufactured in the cell. The estimated material cost is $18 per unit. Provide the following journal entries. In your computations, round per unit cost to two decimal places and use rounded amount in subsequent calculations. If required, round your final answers to...

Heller Manufacturing has two production facilities that manufacture baseball gloves. Production costs at the two facilities differ because of varying labor rates, local property taxes, type of equipment, capacity, and so on. The Dayton plant has weekly costs that can be expressed as a function of the number of gloves produced: TCD(X) = X2 − 3X + 5, where X is the weekly production volume in thousands of units, and TCD(X) is the cost in thousands of dollars. The Hamilton...

A cost-minimizing firm has the following production function: Q=LK+2M. Where L denotes Labor, K denotes Capital, and M denotes Materials. The prices for the inputs are as follows: w=$4, r=$8, and m=$1. The firm is operating in the long run. Answer the following questions as you solve for the total cost of producing 400 units of output. Assume an interior solution (i.e. positive values of all inputs). a) Set up constrained optimization problem of the firm: b) Write out the...

A company produces two goods, X and Y. Production technology exhibits the following costs, where C (Qx, Qy) represents the cost of producing Qx units of good X and Qy units of good Y: C (0.50) = 100, C (5,0) = 150, C (0,100) = 210, C (10,0) = 320, C (5,50) = 240, and C (10,100) = 500.
