The kingdoms of Ghana, Mali and Songhai have contributed significantly to the development of West African and African - American history. The gold trade which played an important role in the growth of these kingdoms started in 4th or 5th Century when Berber speaking people from North Africa had established the trading path from Sahara desert to west Africa.

Ghana, Mali and Songhai empire had flourished and also contributed to development of West African and African American history through the trading of gold and made West African history golden and significant.
