There was mild recession due to the disinflationary monetary policy by federal reserve ,each period high unemployment was caused by federal Reserve but the economy was recovering by the end of 1980s.

No both are different phenomena economic recovery is business cycle after recession where economy regains and employment also increases. Economy growth refers to the increase in production of goods and services over a period of time and it create more profit for businesses.
