What causes the US to be so isolationist prior to World War I? Why does the United States finally get involved in the War?

Even after the independence of America, leaders of America wanted to remains in isolation and did not want to get themselves entangled in European affairs. Following were reasons:

  • Economic prosperity was possible in political isolation.
  • America wanted to integrate its states properly.
  • America Geographical location was also responsible for its isolationist policies.

US was gaining economic prosperity when Europe was facing brunt of war. But German U-Boats destroyed American Ships and many people died. America suffered economically and politically. Hence, it decided to participate in world war -1
