Women have entered the workforce over the past 60 years. Why will this NOT cause the labor force participation rate for men to fall?
The entrance of women in the labour force is not likely to reduce the work participation for men. This is because men are not supposed to look after the children and nourish them, when their spouses are working. This is in contrast to the other observation, where women initially were subjected to take care of the family while the men were more likely to work outside. Over the past few years, the women have either entered the labour force only after raising their children, or they have used child welfare centres, daycare centres, etc. for this purpose. Due to these reasons, the labour force participation rate for men should not fall.
