How do economists feel about using deception in experiments?
Economists have usually proscribed the use of deception in experiments. The reason generally stated by the economists is that using deception adversely affects the experimental control and validity by affecting the psychological reactions of the people. While conducting economic experiments it is essential that people subjected to the experiment believe that they will be paid according to the same rule as others. If this does not happen then the control is lost and the validity of the experiment no longer exist.
