Prohibition is the popular name for constitutional ban on alcoholic beverages that came into effect in early 1920, it was designed by the reformers as a noble experiment which can bring more order and morality in the society as use of alcohol was related to social ill like poverty and insanity.But in reality , prohibition had opposite effects. At first it achieved success at the local and state level and it was mainly supported by middle class of the society but along with increasing the time, Illegal heavy traffic of banned liquor increased the number of criminal activities along with raking in the money and stacking up the bodies. By the 1930, American were tired of this prohibition and the bill was repealed. The willingness of killing people , lawlessness , lack of morality among people during the prohibition made a deep dark impression among common people that's why prohibition represents the dark side of the progressive era.
