Examine some of the main (internal or external) reasons why the African people were to develop into nation states later than most experts feel was appropriate/normal. Examine the role of European imperial powers and the role of tribal chieftans in the international slave trade and African nation state development?
Some reasons why African people were developed into nation states later is because of the role of tribes and African merchants partaking in the slave trade. Instead of forcing nation states by the Europeans the Europeans used these tribes (who were at war among each other) these tribes would trade their prisoners from other waring tribes (typically for guns, which would benefit them in conquering other tribes completely). Nation states could effect the trade because many of the tribes did not get along too well and these nation states would not have survived long when hurting profits. Due to the slave trade establishing nation states later had to be done due to the African economy was damaging and could not sustain these nation states.
