Company executives at Casablanca Cruise Lines need to decide if they will have asbestos removed from their ships by a company based in the former Soviet republic of Novostan. The cost to the company would be $80 million less than if an American company were used, but Novostani standards of worker safety are far less rigorous.
What are the legal and ethical considerations here and what would you do as the CEO of the company?
legally it is allowed and ethically it is wrong to do so. Legally labour safety standards should be followed. Ethically it is quite bad. Asbestos is serious pollutant causing mesolethomia and is poisonous and cancerous. When labour is used without safety standards it amounts to subjecting them to serious health hazards. It could be disastrous. Ethically it is our duty to value and protect lives of people. There as ceo of company I will require strict safety requirements and will use services of such firm which meets those requirements
