The Core competencies increases the ability to expand. This is because this is one area where the person can excel in his field because core competencies represent excellence in a field. If one is able to identify his/her area of core competency then the ability to expand of the person increases. This is true not only at the individual level but also at the firm, country, household level.

Thus, one should be able to identify one's core competencies which increases the ability of the person to expand.
