The Northwest Ordinance of 1787 was a major breakthrough in the in the Constitution of America. It was an act of the Congress of Confederation of United States andcreated an organized territory of United States fromlands beyondthe Appalachian Mountains between British North America and the Great Lakes to the North and Ohio River to the South. It formed the official territory of United States.As a result of forming the Ohio River as the boundary between free and slave territory in the region between Appalachian Mountain and Mississippi River.Thus it forms a well defined borders between the free state and the slave state and thus helped in creating a prohibition on the slavery.
