The scientific method is a process that allows scientists to explore the observations they make and answer the questions they have (“Scientific Method”, n.d.). The process can be modified when scientists cannot directly test something. The goal of the scientific method is to “discover cause and effect relationships” (“Scientific Method”, n.d.). Scientists can also back up and repeat steps while they are going through the process (“Scientific Method”, n.d.). The steps of the scientific method are asking a question, doing background research, writing a hypothesis, testing the hypothesis with an experiment, analyzing the data and drawing conclusions from it, and communicating the results to others (“Scientific Method”, n.d.).
I think the Customer Development Process is somewhat similar to the scientific method, because they appear to follow the same underlying concept. In customer development, founders turn their vision into hypotheses and develop a plan to test these hypotheses. In a similar way, the scientific method includes forming a hypothesis and testing it with an experiment. Founders then decide whether the business model they created can be repeated and scaled up, as scientists would analyze the data they obtain and pull conclusions from it. With the results, both processes aim to use them in a productive way. That could either be answering the scientific question or utilizing a business model that has determined to be valid. In a similar way to how the Customer Development Process has search and execution stages, the scientific method seems to mainly involve hypothesis forming and testing. In both processes, the founder or scientist can back up or repeat steps several times if needed.
Completely agree with this discussion.
As both scientific method and customer development process both are a lot similar, they Both require research, analysis of data and getting conclusions from the data.
In both scientific method and customer development process there is need to develop plans to test the hypothesis.
By analysing data the business owners can conclude what is beneficial for the business and what is not, what type of product the customer like, what they don't and how they can improve it.
