What is the main concept of Emile Durkheims theory?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

He was interested in how society works as a group and how people interact with each other to continuously feel that they are a part of a group and whatever they do is in the common interest. The focus of his theory is on the stability that the society has and how its formation is responsible for the collective action. In this sense there is a functionalist perspective where he talks about the solidarity which binds the society together in a shared culture. People with different experiences interests believe and culture work in cohesion. In this way his theory illuminates the functioning of the society.
