Media conglomerates are getting bigger, with more media companies concentrating into fewer hands. Do you think this is a positive or a negative trend? Why?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

This is a positive trend as this will mean that people who are well versed with the process will be controlling a larger section of the market with their able hands. Building up excessive competition among media companies will mean that too any ideas will come to play and may not be enforceable. Thus because of this larger companies should be managed by fewer able hands as this increases efficiency in the conducting of business. This is thus a positive trend in terms of a management standpoint. In terms of average costs and overall employment, the presence of smaller players may actually make sense as this will increase efficiency and lower average costs. But the general consensus should be that a larger number of companies must be concentrated in fewer hands.
