The idea of Smarter Planet came to IBM during the time of economic crisis of 2008. This was the time when the economies of the world were slowing and government was looking for plans to rebuild their infrastructure.According to IBM, the vision of Smarter Planet is driven by three Is - Instrumentation, Interconnectedness and intelligence. This vision is mainly related to showing industries to be more productive, efficient and responsive. Thus, emphasis on computational power and innovative thinking was promoted.
This relates to the IBM's mission and vision because IBM is a company that find out ways to keep their consumers happy and satisfied and look for ways to innovate and increase efficiency by promoting advanced technology.
