Answer #1

When professor gives pop quizzes that can only be taken in the class on the day they are given, this is an incentive for students to come to class. This is true.

Because when student gets quiz based question in the class they become interested. If the student be able to answer any question he comes more interested. For the the students who are not coming they also become interested when they heard about it. This is a process where students get more curiosity about the subject and class. In the class those things of quizes and answers creates a competitive environment. The other students also want to take part of this. So definitely we can say this is a true incentive to come to class.

1. A professor at a major university gives an exam to a large lecture class of several hundred students. The professor requires a minimum of 65 points on the test to pass, but within the range of passing, the professor will “curve” for the letter grades: A, B, or C. The exam grades are approximately normally distributed with a mean of 72.1 points and a standard deviation of 8.4 points. (a) Compute the percent of students that pass the class;...

Suppose your professor comes to class one day and offers to sell a $20 bill to the highest bidder. The only caveat is that in this auction market, the top two bidders have to pay whatever they bid. Your professor knows that as soon as two students are rash enough to enter the bidding, he is practically guaranteed to make a substantial profit from this market. What does he know that you do not?

Back in the day, in a class of 25 students, a statistics professor created a linear regression to predict a student’s overall points earned on a test (y) from their score on one particular problem (x). She found that the regression line, framed as we usually do in class, was given by y = 48.208 + 2.518(x − 8.625) and that the sum of the squares of the differences of the actual values of y and the values predicted by...

A large statistics class consists of 250 students. On the final exam, the professor worries that question 13 might be unfair. He resolves to drop question 13 if less than 40% of the class correctly answers the question. After grading 125 randomly selected final exams (out of 250 taken), a student calls the professor and asks if question 13 will be dropped. The professor looks at the graded exams and notes that 46 of the 125 graded exams got question...

A professor comes up with an exam to measure learning in students. The exam is given two separate times in six different classes. The professor finds that for ALL classes students showed a consistent (similar magnitude) improvement in performance from time 1 to time 2. When comparing the performance of each class at time 1 the professor found that the results were not consistent (large variability in scores). True or False: In the above scenario the exam most likely had...
