You are the assistant to the CEO of a small textile firm that manufactures high-quality, premium priced, stylish clothing.  The CEO has decided to see what the opportunities are for exporting to France and has asked you for advice as to the steps the company should take.  What advice would you give to the CEO?

The first step in order to see if international markets are available for the company’s product can be to use the government information sources which are available and have no effective cost. Apart from this free source of information, a number of other alternative information sources are present on the internet which can be used by the company to learn about the foreign market potential of their products.

One other method which can be used by the company is to use the services of an export management company. However, this approach may result in some costs but it is the fastest method of receiving get “up and running” information in regard to initiating an export program.
