In 1995 Jack ma visited USA. Jackma was a school teacher who started translation company to take advantage of growing Chinese exports. In usa a friend showed him Internet. He found everything on Internet but there was hardly any Chinese presence. When he returned to China he founded China pages-a directory of Chinese companies looking for Foreign customers. China pages failed. Ma entered into joint venture with China telecom and ultimately lost control of joint venture. Four years later in 1999 he coralled 17 friends into his apartment. They decide to build their own market place. The name Ali baba was chosen because in usa Ma found that all people whether from USA, Germany, India etc know about Ali BABA. It was easy to spell and globally known. Ali baba opens sesame for small to medium sized companies.
