What was Rachel Carson's educational background? (Author of Lilent Spring)
Rachel Carson, the Author of Silent Spring, attended her high school in Kensington, PA from 1921 to 1925. She then graduated from Pennsylvania College for Women in 1929 which is now known as Chatham University. There she changed her major from English to Biology after being influenced by her Biology Professor Mary Scott Skinker. She won summer scholarship to the Woods Hole Marine Biological Laboratory at woods hole, MA. In 1932, She received her M.A. in Zoology from John Hopkins University. Her thesis was titled: "The Development of the Pronephros During the Embryonic and Early Larval Life of the Catfish." She couldn't pursue her PhD due to lack of funds and so was forced to drop out of graduate school in 1934 spring.
She also taught Zoology at John Hopkins summer school in summer 1930. From 1931-1932, she taught Dental and Pharmacy School University of Maryland, College Park, Md.
