Give an explanation of the median voter model. Why might a minority say that democracy can never represent their interests?
Minority says it because democracy relies on majoritarian rules and it means that candidate who gets the majority of the vote is going to win the election. When it is linked with the median voter model, then elected candidate will always be selected by the median voter ( as per the median voter model) and that candidate will always listen to the median voters. Here, median voter is the person who belongs to the majoritarian group. Hence, concerns or issues raised by minority will not be followed by the elected candidate as the candidate will show concerns only about those who are in majority and help him win the election. It makes minority to think that democracy cannot represent their interests, issues and concerns.
