In the last decades successful company create customer value through three disciplines---operational excellence, customer intimacy and product leadership. They normally compete in one out of the three and keep the rest two on the industry standards. And some company even can compete in two out of the three.
Once you decide your focus area, it means the same that you already select your customer because choosing disciplines or choosing customers are the same thing.
Most companies failed because they are too aggressive in responding the change in the market so that they lost their value proposition. However, that does not mean companies which are be successful do not respond to change in the market. In the contrary, They just keep looking for new standards, redefine what is possible and the competition at their own pace while keeping their own identity.
To be successful is easy but to retain the success is very difficult.
After achieving customer satisfaction, Company is more burdened to maintain their goodwill.
Let’s take an example of Apple company , they have positioned their brand image in the minds of consumer worldwide as a royal thing to carry. However, if they don’t keep changing and updating their technology with the need of world , they would not have restrained that position . Therefore change made them to keep the pace of success. .
However , change is not necessary in every field . Tea from Assam , India is famous worldwide and they don’t need change to retain such success . But if they will change, they will lose their cultural heritage and will lose the customer base.
Therefore , different area need different strategies to be successful and to retain the success
