The homeless are created by financial insufficiency, by not having enough to even cover your basic expenses. Families which have children have a greater number of dependents. Children do not work, cannot earn for themselves and must be fed and taken care of by their parents. As a result, for families with children, these basic expenses are much larger. Moreover, children also require attention. For the first few years of their life atleast, children cannot survive on their own and must be accompanied by a parent at all times. This would also take away another earning member of the family. Children should only be had by financially secure families who are confident in their ability to care for the child. Due to creating a much larger financial burden on their families, it is no surprise that families with children are the fastest growing component of the homeless population.
