The Salvation Army is basically a humanitarian and international charitable organization which is structured in a quasi-military fashion. It is a Protestant para church and aims to bring salvation to poor, needy and destitute by trying to meet their physical and spiritual needs. Its members are called Salvationists.
It runs charity shops, disaster relief, shelters for homeless and other humanitarian works in about 128 countries. Being a para church it also aims at advancement of Christian religion along with helping poor and the needy. However it does not enforce Baptism and Holy communion.
It is styled as Army structure with its international head called as General and also has its own flag, uniform, shield, saluting style etc. The Army was founded in 1865 in London and currently it’s international headquarters lie in London.
