Throughout the centuries, the desire to control trade and trade routes has often been the cause of conflict between countries. The desire to become supreme or paramount or to amplify/aid the economy or to satisfy the growing needs countries from the old times fought for the control of trade and trade routes. We can find the examples of it in the earlier times and even today. Take the example of opium wars between British and china, the Anglo-Dutch war, the American revolutionary war (which was seen by the Europeans a battle for the control of lucrative trade routes as well as merchandises), Finnish Soviet War (Soviet desire to mine nickel in Petsamo), French and British battles in the Indian ocean and most recently Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait.
