Members of electoral college vote for presidential candidates. These members are elected by the people through popular voting system. These members are directly elected.

It provides stability to political system and makes democracy long lasting.

American does not have direct election of president. Following are reasons:

  • It is well balanced and enduring and provide stability.
  • It saves minority state from majoritarian states.
  • it also makes president to pay heed towards the small states. Relatively, small sates have proportionally more representation.

many scholars argue that such system should be abolished and direct election should be conducted. But over the last 200 years, this system has proved to be more democratic and representative.
