In my opinion aging of work force is most important reason society should care about for falling rates of labour force participation .Those who are young has a greater productivity and participation in labour force than old aged people .As the person becomes older and move towards its retirement age his productivity declines and his participation in labour force also declines. If you look at data In 2015, 23 percent of the U.S. labor force constitute of people aged 55 year and labour force whose age is ranged 16 to 24 years old constitute just 13 percent.
