In two to three sentences, explain the assumption that distinguishes weak vs. strong sustainability.
Sustainable level of welfare means the level of consumption that our future generation can cherrish without damaging / depleting our current natural resources or eco system. Most of the countries in the world are overpopulated (china, india) only few are underpopulated (Argentina, Canada) with limited resources to feed it's citizens. Sustainable level of per capita welfare is below current levels.
Strong sustainability is that in which natural capital (fossil fuels, ecosystem) act as complimentary to economical capital without replacing it, eg- ozone layer for us which is necessary for our existence. Weak sustainability is that in which natural capital is replaced with economic capital, eg- rainforest,coral reefs etc.
